RoboCop Day in Detroit

RoboCop Day in Detroit

RoboCop Day in DetroitWith the release of the RoboCop reboot on June 3, 2014 Detroit has officially made today “RoboCop” day. Along with other festivities a statue of the most famous android cop will be erected outside the headquarters of the Detroit Police Department.

If you haven’t been following this story since its conception, in 2011 Detroit’s mayor Dave Bing tweeted out that much like the Rocky statue found outside of Philadelphia’s City Hall, a statue of the city’s favorite robotic lawman should have a home in their fine city. Soon to follow a Kickstarter campaign was launched by the non-profit arts group Imagination Station to raise $50,000 to create the statue.

Of course this is just one part of the fanfare that is happening today for the Motor City including the first pitch being thrown by the famous character at tonights Tigers game. I feel this is a good jolt for the morale of the city due to multiple job and housing crises that have hit this famous Michigan city. If you ask me what I think about this idea, “I’d buy that for a dollar.”
